Surgana Trip

My comments on the Surgana Trip....Hmmm lets see...It was fantastic!! The food was very good!! It was a great learning curve... and also acted as an alarm clock for us on the tribal people of India... I cannot imagine spending a day without electricity, and these people spend their life with out it!! I truly admire that...They have low level of hygiene, and we conclude that they are prone to diseases... Resources are being wasted due to their ignorance and their lack of awareness and knowledge on how to use them.. We must educate them.... Provide them with at least minimum standards of living. Vanvasi Kalyan Aashram id doing an amazing job, in educating these young minds...Hats off to them!! And once again I would like to thank them for such amazing food!!

Now coming to possible improvements..... It is very difficult to improve perfection, but here are a few suggestions:
1. Through out the semester you can ask to do some work for some private organization, and then keep the money we earn as charity from our(NSS) side and then donate it to Vanvasi Aashram, or take up self improvement programs using that money.
2. We can also some Group Discussions on awareness topicson a regular basis..
I guess thats it!!!
Cheers,
Your friendly neighborhood,
CS

Of Movies and Changing Perceptions

Movies are a part of every single culture in this world. They are sometimes even used to reflect and represent the cultural identities of people and places. Actually, some people choose to identify themselves with movies. Some movies provoke self-realization, others prod our critical thinking abilities and some others leave no messages. Although it is arguable that most movies are made solely for the purpose of entertainment value, recent trends show that that is not the only thing that some of today’s responsible directors consider when deciding to make a movie. It is rather bold of them to venture out into this world with not just a movie that will entertain, but will also put its message across. Undoubtedly it is such movies that create the most impact on societies. And it does require particular skill and mastery of the art to do real justice to a creative movies that the Indian Film Industry produces.
The Indian film industry has witnessed a creative revolution. We have got a huge movie industry, with movies operating on huge budgets. While this is all true, the growth of local film industries requires to be critically examined. Since they cater to a smaller proportion of the public and do have a limited audience due to language barriers, they have to be especially careful in picking storylines which shall attract the local audience. Hence, regional movies generally tend to reflect the cultural and ethical systems of specific regions. In this sense, regional cinema can be said to be especially ethno-centric into this regard.
A particularly dynamic and evolving movie industry happens to be the Kannada industry which makes a very interesting thing to study and critique because it is so constantly changing. What started out with black and white pictures and simple, linear storylines is today something broader. The industry has expanded, out spanning some others and outlasting some others as well. It has shown as exceptional increase in the quality of its movies. From familial storylines which once focused heavily on sentimental movies, emotional themes and philosophical songs has now turned into a vibrant simmering cauldron of movies with multiple storylines, complex thematic elements and a very interesting type of music. It moves you to a great extent, and there is a characteristic change in the trend in Kannada movies in particular. Some remarkable songs have come out in the recent past which has reflected how our cultural tastes have transformed to be more global. There is a more global approach to music these days with genres such as rap, rock and metal creeping into the Kannada movies. Today, there is a refreshing tinge to every Kannada movie, a difference. It’s not the same old tune, as they said. It’s changed, and does reflect how the industry is changing.

It’s interesting to observe this trend of events because this directly relates to how our perception is changing, dynamically, region to region. Our movies are indicative of this difference. It’s interesting to know that not just entertainment can be derived from movies. Behind all the on-screen drama is a simmering cauldron of human values, emotions, perceptions and persistent effort which alter so often.
